Medical Assistant Scholarships and Grants
Earning a medical assistant education typically takes between one and two years. Educational costs are significantly lower than those associated with other medical careers, but many students find the costs too great to manage without the help of medical assistant scholarships and grants. Scholarships and grants help student cover tuition, fees, supplies and other costs associated with their education.
American Medical Technologists Scholarship
The American Medical Technologists (AMT) is a non-profit agency that provides support for medical assistants and other members of the medical community with certification programs and member support services. Each year AMT selects five applicants to receive a $500 scholarship to help cover educational costs. The scholarship is based on financial need so students are required to prove need before being awarded the scholarship. Monies are sent to the school in which the student is enrolled to cover tuition costs.
Maxine Williams Scholarship
The American Association of Medical Assistants offers the Maxine Williams Scholarship to students enrolled in a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Students are required to complete at least one quarter of a medical assistant program with a 3.0 GPA before qualifying for the scholarship. Students cannot request scholarship applications directly from the American Association of Medical Assistants. Program directors must contact the association for scholarship applications. Students awarded the Maxine Williams Scholarship earn a one-year free membership to the association and $1,000 toward educational costs.
Specialized Medical Assistant Scholarships
While medical assistants are often trained for general work in medical offices, some programs offer specialized training. Scholarships are available for students in specialized medical assistant programs.
